FRANK WILDHORN
Frank's works span the worlds of popular, theatrical and classical music.
In 1999, Frank became the first American composer in twenty-two years to have three shows running simultaneously on Broadway -- Jekyll & Hyde at the Plymouth Theatre, The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Minskoff, and The Civil War at the St. James Theatre, where previews began in March of '99.
The Civil War received two 1999 Tony nominations: Best New Musical and Best Score. The show's National Tour is now under way, and will run into 2001. Prior to its Broadway run, Frank produced a star-studded double concept album of The Civil War (featuring Hootie and the Blowfish, Blues Traveler, Trisha Yearwood, Travis Tritt, Dr. John and Betty Buckley among others), as well as the single album The Nashville Sessions.
Jekyll & Hyde holds the distinction of being the first new American musical to have two internationally released concept recordings of the score: Highlights from Jekyll & Hyde on RCA, and Jekyll & Hyde - The Complete Work on Atlantic Records. The success of this recording launched a new label, Atlantic Theatre. Songs from Jekyll & Hyde such as "Someone Like You," "A New Life," and "This Is The Moment" have been performed worldwide and have been featured at the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the WNBA Championships, Miss America Pageant, the 1996 Democratic National Convention and the Inauguration of President Clinton (sung by Jennifer Holliday). The Broadway cast recording was released in July of '97.
The Bremen, Germany production and the recent opening of Jekyll & Hyde in Sweden mark the first of the next eight international productions. Future international plans include productions in Madrid, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, London and Australia. The two-year American tour of Jekyll & Hyde began in April of '99.
After closing at the Minskoff, The Scarlet Pimpernel went on the road with a new cast, making stops in Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta. This company then brought the show back to New York for a run at the Neil Simon Theatre. A National Tour was launched in February. The show's score has yielded it's own Top 40 AC Hit with the song "You Are My Home," a duet recorded by Peabo Bryson and Linda Eder. The Broadway cast recording was released in February of '98. A new album entitled Encore! featuring Rex Smith and Rachel York was released in November '99.
